A new veterinary clinic has opened to animals and their owners after a grand opening from an MP.

VIPs descended on The Mewes Vets in Rottingdean to celebrate its opening on Saturday, January 7.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP and Councillor Sue John were among those in attendance at the ceremonial opening, with Lloyd cutting a ribbon to commemorate the day.

There has been a veterinary clinic on the Marine Drive site for over 46 years, under several owners, however in December 2021 it closed. This meant residents of the local area had to find vets further afield.

The new clinic is owned and run by Dr Julia Mewes, who opened her first branch of The Mewes Vets in Haywards Heath over 25 years ago.

Julia said: “We were delighted to welcome Lloyd, who was kind enough to cut a ribbon for us. We have received such a warm welcome to Rottingdean.

"We are very much looking forward to providing a welcoming service for the pets in the area. I am sure that we will soon be very much part of the community.”

The Mewes Vets was awarded best vets In West Sussex in 2021.

A spokeswoman for the clinic said: "Alongside Julia, we have a vet with over 28 years’ experience, 2 experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses, plus 2 receptionists with previous veterinary experience.

"We will all be offering a caring, friendly service, under our all-important slogan 'Treating Pets as Friends'."

It offers a unique "one pet, one vet" policy, where pets and their owners will be treated by a familiar face on every visit. This is said to build strong bonds with both patients and their owners.
