MOTORISTS are being warned of road changes while redevelopment work takes place at Brighton Marina.

Drivers will have to take a different route out of Brighton Marina as the exit ramp is temporarily closed for construction to take place.

The Black Rock rejuvenation project is being done to improve the area just west of the Marina, including work on sea defences, play areas and creating a better connection between Black Rock and the Marina for buses, bikes and pedestrians.

The lower ramp out of the Marina closed to traffic on Monday, December 9 as contractors commenced work on the link, which is due to finish in August.

Drivers will instead use the upper ramp, normally the entrance to the Marina – which has been converted to support two-way traffic.

When leaving the marina, eastbound traffic can continue to access the A259 seafront road via Roedean Road as normal.

Vehicles leaving the Marina and travelling westbound into Brighton will now access the seafront road using a diversion route on Wilson Avenue and Eastern Road.

The Marina will be open for business as usual in this time, and a spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “We apologise to all Marina residents and visitors for any inconvenience the changes may cause.”

The 14B bus route in Brighton will be diverted. A spokesman for Brighton and Hove buses said: “Due to Roadworks to construct a new Bus Link from Madeira Drive to the Marina, the exit slip from the Marina will be closed.

“This will not cause diversions other than on the 14B route but may cause delays into and out of the Marina.”

Works are set to finish on the overall Black Rock project in summer 2023. A spokesman for the council said: “We have developed the rejuvenation project to resolve the problems that have led to the site remaining vacant for over 40 years.

“We have also started to improve the local area by making it more accessible and visually appealing as part of these phased improvements.”
