Part of the A27 has now reopened after a vehicle overturned in the Southwick Tunnel.

The A27 eastbound between the A270 and A293, near Southwick, was closed following the serious collision.

Emergency services, inlcuding Sussex Police, attended.

The road was eventually reopened several hours later.

A spokesman from Sussex Roads Police said: "If you're currently stuck in or on the approach to the Southwick Hill Tunnel on the A27, we're in the process of having the crashed vehicle recovered and will hopefully have you on your way soon.

"Thanks for your patience."

Road users were advised by National Highways to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol on road signs:

  • Leave the A27 at the Holmbush interchange and at the roundabout take the first exit onto the A270.
  • Follow the A270 to its junction with the A293 northbound and turn left onto the A293.
  • Continue on the A293 northbound back to the A27 eastbound Hangleton interchange and rejoin the A27 eastbound to continue your journey.
