Five Sussex establishments have been included in the SquareMeal Top 100 UK restaurants list.

The highest-placed restaurant on the list was Furna, which finished in 27th position.

It was joined by Little Fish Market (30th), Tillingham (55th), The Set (80th) and The Pass at South Lodge (90th).

SquareMeal is the UK’s leading independent restaurant guide and deliberately excludes London restaurants to allow venues from around the UK to be recognised.

Speaking about the list SqaureMeal said: "Each of the top 100 results are a unique combination of our own in-house critic-led opinions and thousands of diner votes.

"It’s this dual approach that makes our list incomparable, representing not only our professional opinion but thousands of real-life experiences that help to reinforce and bolster our final decisions.

What did SquareMeal say about the Sussex restaurants?

"The menu takes notes from Asian cooking but is ever-evolving depending on the season."

In describing The Set, SquareMeal wrote: "Dan Kenny is blazing his own trail in Brighton, cooking up audacious tasting menus packed with bold, Asian-flecked umami flavours.

There’s only one menu to choose from, but Kenny’s food is some of the most inventive, daring food in the country right now."

It's also a restaurant that had been well-received on Tripadvisor, earning a 4.5/5 rating from 699 reviews.
