A lane of the A27 at Lancing has been reopened.

A spokeswoman from National Highways said lane one is open but will close tonight to allow overnight draining work.

The eastbound section of the A27 at Lancing was first closed following a collision involving four vehicles on Tuesday night.

It was then kept closed between the A2025 at Lancing and the A283 at Shoreham after safety concerns over groundwater running onto the road from the surrounding area and freezing.

The closure has caused huge disruption in the county, with some commuters spending several hours in queues.

National Highways said the closure is in place for safety reasons due to a dangerous combination of flooding and freezing temperatures leading to ice forming on the carriageway.

Yesterday afternoon one lane was also re-opened, however it was closed once again at 7pm.
