A large police presence has been responding to an armed incident, with people told to avoid the scene.

Several police vehicles and firearms officers were seen near the scene in Theaklen Drive in St Leonards, along with an ambulance team.

A police helicopter was also seen circling over the area.

Witness Daniel Burton said the helicopter was flying "very low" around the scene of the incident.

He said: "I could see the police helicopter flying around the Hollington and Silverhill area in St Leonards and it was flying very low, so I thought that they were looking for somebody."

Police were also called to respond to a related incident at Churchill Court, near Stonehouse Drive - less than half a mile from the armed incident.

Sussex Police have urged the public to avoid both areas with an increased police presence in place.

A police spokesman said: "At 7.10pm, police responded to an armed incident at Theaklen Drive, St Leonards and a related incident at Churchill Court off Stonehouse Drive.

"No injuries have been reported.

"Please avoid both areas. There will be an increased police presence while we respond to this incident."
