Villagers have started a campaign to repair a “nightmare” road where cars are getting damaged and stuck near the A27.

The petition is asking for the “dangerous” road which run through Kingston village to be repaired immediately to prevent further accidents.

Emma Carroll, who lives in Kingston and supports the campaign, told The Argus: “This road is a nightmare and people are genuinely scared to drive down there.

“People who don’t live in the village drive really fast and there are lots of potholes so it is really dangerous.”

The road goes between the A27 and the C7 and residents are calling for the “urgent” re-surfacing of Ashcombe Hollow as well as parts of Ashcombe Lane and Wellgreen Lane.

“We have seen ambulances stuck here and so many near misses,” said Ms Carroll.

“People will die if something is not done.”

The petition, started by Emily Hiscox on Tuesday, has already garnered 200 signatures.

Writing on the petition, Ms Hiscox said: “This is the only way we can mount pressure on the local govt to speed up the planned repairs and to communicate that we need the whole road to be resurfaced properly, not just intermittent patching up of potholes that clearly doesn’t work and they take too long to do.”

The people of Kingston say that the potholes are damaging their cars by puncturing tyres or damaging their suspension.

“Drivers are risking head-on collisions to avoid the enormous potholes,” said Ms Hiscox.

The campaigners say this is a long term issue because the road is treated like a small village road but is actually a main through road from the A27 to the C7.

“The traffic is horrendous,” Ms Carroll told the Argus.

Writing on the petition, Ms Hiscox said: “Huge lorries either don’t see or ignore the width and weight restriction signs and are causing traffic jams on a daily basis.

“Cars drive way too fast, the road surface is horrendous and we the residents are sick and tired of it, as are commuters who use the route.”

East Sussex County Council has been contacted for comment.
