A mother is calling for kinder cancer treatment as her four-year-old son faces three more years of medication.

Hannah Peckham, 42, is mum to Bodhi.

The four-year-old was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in November last year.

Hannah, who lives near Brighton, told The Argus: “Bodhi is wonderful. He is a joy, but that is why it is so hard when he asks ‘do I have to take my medicine again?’ because the answer is always yes.”

“It is great that there is treatment, but I wish it was kinder.”

Bodhi received treatment at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton.

He turned four in January and is now out of hospital and in a less intense stage of treatment, but this still involves three medicines in the morning and four in the evening.

He also has injected chemotherapy once a month. His treatment will last for another three and a half years.

“It’s practically Bodhi’s whole life again,” Hannah said.

Now Hannah is campaigning for kinder treatment and fundraising to donate to Leukaemia UK.

“As Bodhi’s mum I spend a lot of time with him in hospital but there’s nothing I can do in terms of his treatment," she said.

“By fundraising, I can have a bit more impact on his future and help other people going through this.”

Hannah is a children’s writer and is planning to donate the proceeds of her next book to Leukaemia UK.

Her campaign is called Pants To Leukaemia and Hannah got the inspiration for this when she was in hospital with Bodhi.

“I turned around to see Bodhi running around naked with his pants on his head,” she told The Argus.

The sight made her crack up, and she took a photo which she sent to her friends and family.

People began to reply, sending photos of themselves with pants on their heads.

“Bodhi found it absolutely hilarious,” Hannah said.

Hannah asked her friends and family if she could use their photos and made a collage of images to start the Pants To Leukaemia fundraising page.

The campaign has received celebrity endorsement as Hannah is DJ Zoe Ball’s stepsister and she also went to school with TV presenter Holly Willoughby.

The pair joined in with the campaign and Bodhi and Hannah went on ITV’s This Morning to raise awareness.

“It is so lovely to have so much support and see everyone getting on board,” said Hannah.

“At Bodhi’s pre-school, they had a special fundraising day where the children decorated underpants and made pants-shaped biscuits.”

The fundraiser has now reached over £4,500 and is growing steadily.
