After rumours circulated that Rihanna would be headlining Brighton Pride, we asked readers who you would like to see on the main stage this summer - and these were your responses.

Topping the list was Lady Gaga, with 60 readers voting for her to headline the festival.

That was more than a third of those who voted in the poll.

This was closely followed by Rihanna, who took more than a fifth of remaining votes.

Writing on Twitter last week, Give Us The Goss, an online entertainment news page, said: "Confirmed. Rihanna will headline Brighton Pride on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

"Official announcement expected after her Super Bowl performance."

Rihanna took to the stage during half time to perform, but unfortunately there was no announcement addressing these rumours.

Instead, the Barbadian singer revealed her second pregnancy.

She kicked off the live performance, her first in seven years, suspended high above the stadium and dressed in all red.

With a knowing look to the camera she opened her jacket and stroked her pronounced stomach, with fans speculating the move to be a pregnancy announcement.

Coming in third place with Argus readers was Miley Cyrus, who currently holds the UK number one with her most recent single Flowers.

Madonna secured 12 per cent of the votes, with just 21 readers giving her their vote.

In last place, with just 20 votes, was Beyonce, who recently returned to the industry with her new dance music album Renaissance.

While she was not so popular with Argus readers, UK fans of the pop superstar faced huge online queues as tickets for her first world tour in seven years went on general sale last week.

When the new date was announced, numbers queueing on Ticketmaster’s website grew to nearly 500,000.

Brighton Pride organisers have not yet announced who will headline the festival this August, and quashed rumours that Rihanna would appear on the main stage.

The organisers of Brighton Pride have issued a statement as rumours circulate that a pop superstar will headline the event this summer.

A spokesman for Brighton Pride told The Argus: "Rihanna is not booked for Brighton and Hove Pride 2023.

"We will not be making any announcements until later in the spring. Nothing is confirmed until we confirm it."
