Pictures show police as they investigated the stabbing of a boy that has seen two teenagers arrested.
Forensics teams in white coats were spotted outside a McDonald’s in Liverpool Road in Worthing town centre overnight as police continued their enquiries.
Officers were called to the scene at around 5.30pm yesterday following reports of a stabbing near the fast food restaurant, with a 16-year-old boy taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Two teenagers, a 17-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both remain in police custody.
Forensics officers were seen investigating the scene at the restaurant and the nearby area, with a cordon set up blocking public access.
One officer could be seen taking a photo near some shrubbery, while others examined two large knives found at the scene of the incident.
One appeared to have a jagged edge, while the other appears to be a machete.
The cordon in the area has since been lifted and the McDonald’s restaurant has reopened to the public following the investigation.
Police have said there will be a significant police presence around the town centre following the stabbing.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called to Liverpool Road in Worthing shortly after 5.30pm on Monday, February 13, to reports of a teenager having been stabbed.
“The victim, a 16-year-old boy, has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
“A 17-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm and remain in custody at this time.”
Chief Superintendent Jo Banks urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.
She said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and the public will see a significant police presence around the town centre as we establish the full circumstances.
“We are exploring a number of lines of enquiry to identify those responsible and bring them into custody.”
