A 16-year-old has been attacked and threatened with a knife on a train in Brighton station.

The boy was assaulted after another teenager ran up to him, punching him and threatening him with the weapon.

The assailant then left the Hove-bound train before running out of the station with a second teenage boy.

A 17-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

British Transport Police have launched an investigation into the incident which took place at around 1pm on January 8.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 225 of 8 January.

“Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.“
