An Olympic gold medallist has helped to launch a 220-mile-long charity cycle ride.

Daley Thompson CBE joined cyclists on the Brighton i360 to launch the Bristol to Brighton Bike Ride in aid of the Starr Trust.

Cyclists will ride along the South Coast over four days to help support the Sussex based charity’s work with young people in the community, with the option of adding a lap of the Isle of Wight on the journey.

The length of the route is approximately 220 miles, with all the money raised going to the charity.

Daley, who won gold medals as a decathlete at the Moscow and Los Angeles Olympics, said: “Never has it been more important to stay fit and healthy! I always believe exercise should be accessible for all, and the Starr Trust bike ride challenge offers just that with its three-tiered cycling groups to cater for all levels.

“If you are looking for a way to get fit and have fun this year with a fantastic bunch of people, then I urge you to get involved and do yourself proud.”

The Starr Trust’s work involves “removing roadblocks for young people by supporting individuals and groups with financial grants, sharing connections and encouraging success”.
