Railway lines have reopened after a person was hit by a train – but passengers have been warned about ongoing delays.

All lines were blocked after the person was hit between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon.

Lines have now reopened, but Southern Rail has warned that trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.

A spokesman said major disruption is expected until 7pm.

“Trains are able to run between East Croydon / Redhill and Gatwick Airport once more, however, due to the level of disruption the service will take some time to recover fully,” they said.

“You should check station screens and journey planners for the latest information. Some services will still be delayed, cancelled and possibly have late notice alterations.

“Whilst Thameslink / Southern / Gatwick Express recommend travelling a little later when a more robust service is in place, if you do travel now you may still experience delays of up to 30 minutes.

“This will still cause disruption to trains through Central London on the Thameslink network.”
