Constance Marten and Mark Gordon have appeared in court charged with manslaughter after the remains of a baby were found in a wooded area.

The pair are also accused of concealing the birth of a child and perverting the course of justice.

An infant’s remains were found on Wednesday in Brighton after a major two-day search operation.

Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, were arrested on Stanmer Villas in Brighton.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names during a brief hearing at Crawley Magistrates Court today.

They were remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at the Old Bailey later this month.
