Tottenham Footballer Heung-Min Son has helped present a couple with an award for raising money for charity.

James and Charlotte Chubb were presented with the award after raising over £30,000 for a charity that has helped their five-year-old daughter.

James and Charlotte, from Lewes, raised the money after their daughter, Josie, was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy. The money, raised through a number of events including running the London Marathon, has benefited Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Spurs forward Son said: “This is incredible, I’m really happy to be here to listen to what you’ve been doing and just want to say thank you for what you have been doing.”

Charlotte, 40, said: “When your child receives a diagnosis that there’s no cure or treatment, you feel super helpless as parents. So, fundraising felt like something we could do that’s proactive.

“MDUK was there for us after the diagnosis and has helped us build an invaluable support system. So, we thought we'd go out and raise as much awareness as possible.”

Muscular Dystrophy UK presented the couple with their fundraiser of the year award as part of their President’s Awards.

The awards were also presented by other famous faces including Gabby Logan, the charity’s president, and former BBC presenter Sue Barker.

The family set up their fundraiser called The Chubb’s Crusade – Understanding Ullrich, after their daughter was diagnosed with Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy in 2021.

More than 110,000 people in the UK have a form of the muscle wasting condition which currently have no cure.

Their fundraising efforts included James, 39, running the Three Peaks Challenge and Charlotte completing the London Marathon.

MDUK chief executive Catherine Woodhead added: “I am delighted that the Chubb family has won one of our President’s Awards 2022.

“We have been so impressed with how, from a standing start, this family along with relatives and friends have taken on so many events and raised over £30,000. We are grateful for all their ongoing support.

“This year’s judging process was harder than ever, and we are exceptionally thankful to Son Heung-min for giving up his time to make a surprise appearance.”
