A man has been arrested and charged after another man was stabbed in a town centre.

Connor Hyland-Whiting, 24, was charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon after the altercation in London Road, Bexhill, on the evening of February 24.

The arrest comes after police issued an appeal to locate Hyland-Whiting in connection to the incident.

Another man who suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed and was taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment has since been discharged to continue recovering at home.

Sussex Police investigating officer PC Chris Diamond said: “We understand this assault will have caused concern among the local community, but I’d like to reassure them that we are conducting a full and thorough investigation.

“Tackling knife crime and serious violence is one of our top priorities as we understand the devastating impact it can have on victims, and the wider public.

“I’d like to thank the local community for the support they have given to our investigation so far and ask that anyone who hasn’t already come forward, who may have information relating to what happened, gets in touch with us.”

Hyland-Whiting, of West View in Hastings, was also charged with seven other offences following his arrest on Friday, March 3.

The other charges, which are for three unrelated incidents, include attempted wounding with intent, affray and assault a person occasioning actual bodily harm.

Hyland-Whiting has been remanded in custody and is set to appear before Brighton Magistrates Court on Monday, March 6.
