Hastings is the "coolest" place to live in Sussex, according to a recent survey.

The seaside town was the highest-rated location in the county in a list of the top 50 coolest places to live by health and wellbeing brand Naturecan.

It came 16th in the national list, missing out on a podium finish to Polperro in Cornwall, Wells in Norfolk and Marlow in Buckinghamshire.

The survey polled 5,000 people, with Hastings praised for its number of art galleries, a packed schedule of annual events and its use for filming for TV and films.

Andy Duckworth, chief executive of Naturecan, said: "All the 50 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK, and Sussex in particular, are such beautiful places, loved by painters, filmmakers and tourists from all over the world.

"What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 50.

"It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses Sussex as a location.

"Hidden gems which are largely only visited by local tourists can find themselves being showcased throughout the world if they are pictured by the right infuencer or featured in a movie."

Also among the coolest places in Sussex was Hove, which placed second, with Arundel third.
