Viewers have criticised an "alternative" Match of the Day on GB News in which presenters mocked Brighton.

Yesterday, after the BBC asked Gary Lineker to withdraw from MOTD over online comments, GB News hosted its own version.

Offering commentary on Saturday's football after the BBC's Match Of The Day was unable to go ahead as usual, GB's Patrick Christys criticised Brighton.

Asked by fellow pundit Mark Dolan for his thoughts on the Leeds versus Brighton game, Patrick said: "I am a Manchester United fan so I would quite happily see Leeds go down.

"As far as I'm concerned Leeds should have probably lost.

"Brighton I have never been to, although I imagine that Gary Lineker would quite like Brighton because it is full of rainbow flags and woke people."

Jacob Allen, Labour council candidate for Woodingdean, responded, writing on Twitter: "Here in Brighton, we are proud of our LGBT+ community and our commitment to social justice and equality.

"Also, notice how the presenter read that joke off his notepad. Embarrassing stuff."

Scott Bryan, TV critic and broadcaster, also chimed in.

He said: "By the way, the 'alternative' MOTD on GB News last night criticising Brighton for having rainbow flags is homophobia.

"I can't spin it any other way."

Mark Dolan joined in with Patrick Christy's mocking, quoting Home Secretary Suella Braverman's defence of the government's controversial Public Order Bill which attempts to crack down on disruptive protesting.

She had criticised the "Guardian-reading, tofu-eating wokerati" for its discontent with the Bill.

Mark agreed with Patrick, saying: "I think that is a fair point - the tofu-eating wokerati."
