A Sainsbury’s supermarket faced a shortage of chilled food after power cuts hit the store.

Outages in Haywards Heath hit the supermarket, meaning that chilled food aisles were bare with severely depleted stock.

A power cut on Sunday, March 12, led to limited availability at a store in the town.

Sainsbury’s put up a sign apologising for the lack of stock but said that they “hope to recover this in the coming days”.

One shopper said: “I went in to pick up some food but the shelves were absolutely empty. We couldn’t get anything that we wanted.

“I wonder if they had to throw stuff out after the power cuts. It’s really bad because no one likes to see food go to waste.”

Power cuts hit thousands of homes last week including in Haywards Heath where many homes were without electricity on both Thursday and Sunday.
