A baby pigeon is in a desperate fight to stay alive as it remains trapped behind netting inside an empty shopping arcade.
The fledgling is unable to move from a high ledge in Imperial Arcade, Brighton, with fellow pigeons staying close by.
It has been underneath a rusty electric socket for two days after becoming stuck inside mesh which runs along one wall of the arcade, which is opposite Churchill Square.
Dozens of people have been to try to help the pigeon, with many more voicing the concerns on social media.
“It’s really suffering. It will starve to death or die of dehydration,” said one person.
“It’s so sad to hear its cries. Never heard one cry like that. So sad.
“They should be improving the Imperial Arcade, not wasting taxpayers' money on Western Road, which is adequate.”
Justin King, who runs a bird and seagull rescue network in Brighton, said this is nothing new.
“This has been an age-old problem for the arcade,” he said.
“It happens all the time. I don’t understand the purpose of the netting anyway. The birds will always find a way.
“The netting just needs to go.”
