A witness has described the moment they saw "undercover armed police" at an incident in the city centre.
Police cars and an ambulance were spotted in Oriental Place, in Brighton, this afternoon as police cars descended on the quiet residential street.
There were reports of armed police at the scene.
A plumber, who was working inside a nearby flat, said: "All of a sudden I heard lots of sirens.
"It was really loud and went on for a good five minutes."
Police were spotted leaving a property on the road and speaking with nearby residents.
Pictures show police cars parked on the corner of Oriental Place and Sillwood Street.
An unmarked police SUV sped past the road, with its blue lights flashing, at around 1.50pm.
A witness said: "I saw undercover armed police officers and two ambulances in the road."
