Cyclists are demanding a blitz on rogue motorists to cut the casualty rate on the region's roads.

Campaigners say cars parked in Brighton and Hove's cycle lanes are putting bikers in danger by forcing them into traffic.

Tonight police said they were so concerned about the problem that they were in talks with council bosses about a plan to help them punish offenders.

Officers want Brighton and Hove City Council to paint solid white lines around the cycle lane so drivers who park there can be ticketed.

Many of the city's lanes have dashed white lines around them - meaning people parking in them cannot be punished because the markings indicate the lanes are only advisory, not mandatory.

Brighton Kemptown MP Des Turner said he was worried that motorists were taking advantage of a loophole in the law.
