A film crew working on the new series of a TV crime drama used a giant crane to shine a light over a street last night.

St John's Place, off First Avenue in Hove, was transformed as the camera crew used a green screen and giant light to illuminate the cobbled road.

Film crews were working on the road since about 11am on Monday for the fourth series of best-selling author Peter James's ITV crime drama Grace, based on his Roy Grace book series.

Filming started on Monday last week, and the cast and crews have been spotted across the city - including actor Robert Glenister, who is new to the show.

The crew appeared to be shooting a historic scene, with extras wearing flat caps, as well as a classic Rover 95 car.

Crew were spotted preparing a shopfront in the cobbled street, which read: "Clocks, Time Pieces" - potentially hinting to the storyline of the first episode, based on the Dead Man's Time story.

The Argus interviewed Peter James last week on-set in Downside, near Dyke Road.

He said: "When we did season one we didn't know if there would be another season, and now we are here filming the next four episodes.

"I've been involved with film and TV production throughout my life, but this is the happiest set I've ever been on.

"Everyone is keen to make sure the essence of the books is kept in the episodes.

"It's like a family, and I think everyone is really loving getting back together and working on Grace."

Filming is set to finish in September, and crews are expected to be spotted across the county until then.
