Vandals who smashed up two bus stops have been condemned by a councillor.

The yobs attacked the bus stops near Carden Avenue and Mackie Avenue, Brighton, leaving broken glass all over the floor.

Councillor Alistair McNair, who represents the ward on the city council, said it was the public who would have to foot the bill for the damage.

Cllr McNair discovered piles of shattered glass near the two bus stops in Patcham last Friday morning.

He said: "This is very expensive to repair, and residents are shocked to see vandalism in a quiet part of Brighton and Hove.

"Patcham and Hollingbury very rarely has antisocial behaviour. We get graffiti and we recently had planted trees destroyed but that's about it.

"We don't often get something quite as dramatic as this."

He said residents were shocked by the vandalism.

Cllr McNair said: "This is the second time we've had a bus stop smashed in such a short space of time.

"On March 25, we had multiple stops damaged further along Carden Avenue near the Carden Primary School.

"It's not a good look for the local community, which is very close knit and family orientated."

Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
