A second home for many musicians in the city will be closing its doors for one last time today.

Ackerman Music in Brighton's Queen's Road has announced its closure after 13 years of trading.

The musical haven proved popular with passers-by and musicians alike, who admired the pianos and other instruments on display inside the store.

But director Lynne Ackerman said this closure still remains a positive for the business, as it expands its online presence.

The business will be launching a new warehouse in Lancing, which is said to handle its growing "internet and mail order" scheme.

"This move will enable us focus on and improve our supply of sheet music to musicians, students, teachers and music departments and will consolidate our position as one of the largest suppliers of sheet music in the UK" said Lynne.

The Argus:

A sign in the window of the glass-fronted store told passers-by of the shop closure.

Customers will also be able to visit Ackerman's other store in Portland Road, Hove, which a spokesman said will "have a dedicated piano and keyboard showroom, along with demo booths for trying out any instrument from trumpets to oboes and everything in between."

Ackerman Music was started in Hove in 1994 by Brian Ackerman, with Brian and his wife Lynne expanding the business to include 3 branches in Sussex and an online presence.

Queen's Road still hosts the shop Hobgoblin Music, a few doors down.
