The A27 westbound has been closed at Southwick.
There is heavy traffic due to emergency repairs being carried out following a serious overnight collision involving two cars from the A293 (Portslade / West Hove turn off, Southwick) to the A283 Steyning Road (Steyning turn off, Shoreham).
One man has been taken to hospital for treatment, Sussex Police said.
The AA reports there is congestion to Hangleton Link past Sainsburys.
“The two cars have been recovered, but work is needed to repair a bridge wall which is going to take until at least lunchtime,” it said.
