Spirits were not dampened as dozens took to the streets with neighbours to celebrate the King's big day.

Many streets across Brighton and Hove closed to celebrate the King's coronationon Saturday, with people young and old using the day as a way to reconnect with their neighbours.

Despite much of the day being under grey skies and rain, the mood on the ground hardly reflected this.

Pimms, cakes and mulled wine were being dished out en-masse at many of the parties we visited, as communities banded together to ring in the new King.

Judith Heron, who helped organise the street party in Tivoli Crescent, said: "It was an excuse to get people together, it was such a nice thing for the community and a way to get to know your neighbours."

And this sentiment was held across the city.

In Park Crescent Road, residents gathered in nearby pub The Park Crescent to watch the crowning of King Charles before taking to the street to celebrate.

Screenings of the coronation proceedings took place in pubs and venues across the city, and also at the big screen in Jubilee Square.

Fans of the royals gathered to celebrate the historical moment in the covered square, watching intently as the crown was placed on King Charles's head.
