Parents will join together for a peaceful sit-down protest calling for action on the climate crisis.

Mothers' Rebellion’s Brighton group will be taking part in the protest this Saturday at Black Rock on Brighton seafront.

It is part of a global day of action from dozens of Mothers' Rebellion groups who are calling for governments to take responsibility “for the next generations”.

Adele Greaves, organiser for the Brighton group, said the action is happening because the effects of global warming will have the worst impact on “our children and descendants”.

She said: “We are facing a global emergency, the climate crisis is happening now. We know that those who are least responsible will have the worst impacts, that’s our children and descendants.

“We have a responbility as caretakers for the next generations but also for the planet that we live on to demand that others take action for this very real problem we’re facing.

“Mothers' Rebellion started in Sweden in 2022 and this is the first time there will be a global event. We have four or five events in the UK, also in the US, Argentina, Uganda, Sweden, Norway so it’s going to be a truly global rebellion.

“It’s mothers, aunts and caretakers, it’s not just mothers. Men can be part of the circle too. The idea is that you form a circle with everyone sat outside with a handwritten placard with the names of children or why you are sitting down.

“We want to invite people to engage with our concerns about the climate crisis. The demands are similar to Extinction Rebellion, we want governments and authorities to tell the truth, to act now and to involve people in actions.

“It’s not about causing disruption to people, it’s about welcoming people into a conversation where people can talk about their feelings.”

Groups from 19 countries will be taking part in the action.

The Brighton group will be protesting from 11am to 12.30pm on Black Rock boardwalk this Saturday.

The group says it welcomes caregivers of all types.
