Sainsbury’s is set to open its newest “food-led” store after months of upgrades on the site of an old Budgens.

The new supermarket will open a “neighbourhood hub” store which will be focused on people being able to complete their weekly shop locally.

The new site in Henfield will also allow customers to order products from Argos, Habitat, and Tu Clothing, which can then be delivered directly to the new shop.

Liam Parris, store manager at Sainsbury’s in Henfield, said: “I know the people of Henfield have been looking forward to today’s opening and it’s been great to welcome them through our doors.

“I’m delighted that the entire team has decided to become part of the Sainsbury’s family and I’m really proud of my colleagues for the way they have pulled together to help get everything ready.

"I hope the local community enjoys their new store and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way.” The new store aims to be the best “in neighbourhood” shop in the village and opened this morning (May 31) with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The shop will now open from 7am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The store also plans to partner with organisations in Henfield to donate surplus food to those in need across the area.

Patrick Dunne, property director at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re excited to have launched our tenth Neighbourhood Hub store this morning following a major investment, giving the local community in Henfield the chance to experience Sainsbury’s fantastic product offer from one of our latest format stores.

“Like the rest of our estate, Sainsbury’s Henfield Local will operate using 100% renewable electricity and 100% LED lighting as part of our ambition to become net zero in our own operations by 2035.”

The Sainsbury’s is opened on the site of the old Budgens store in Henfield High Street, which closed in February 2023.

Having sold the store to Sainsbury’s, the former Budgens staff will move over to the new store from the opening today.
