Cars were covered in graffit in a spate of vandalism in a quiet residential road.

Two vehicles were daubed with red ink over the weekend in what has been described as a "disgraceful" act.

One victim of the vandalism, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was "disappointed and bitter" by the behaviour in what she thought was a safe place.

Sussex Police believe there is "no apparent motive".

She said: "I was so upset. The paint was fresh and I could smell it. I touched it and the paint was still tacky."

The cars were parked in Hempstead Road, Uckfield, at around 8pm on Sunday evening when the vandal sprayed the red ink on the car windows.

Pictures of the defaced cars were posted on a local Facebook group. One member said: "It seems Uckfield is under attack with this disgraceful behaviour.

"It has to stop."

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "The cars were reported to have been attacked in Hempstead Road during the early evening of Sunday but there is no apparent motive and it appears to have been an isolated incident.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 1689 of 28/05."

It comes after a graffiti artist took to the streets of Uckfield to protest against the state of the town's roads.

They used spray paint to draw numerous penises around potholes outside Uckfield College in nearby Downsview Crescent.
