On Saturday, June 17, there will be a launch event at The Level with performances and workshops with coaches and fitness experts.

There will also be advice on being active, as well as information about healthy eating, stopping smoking and active travel.

Councillor Bruno De Oliveira, chairman of the council's Health and Wellbeing board said: “Moving, even just a little bit more, not only improves our physical health, but can also improve our mental wellbeing.

“Regular physical activity can reduce our risk of some chronic conditions including dementia, depression, heart disease and some cancers. It can also help reduce stress, improve sleep, boost self-esteem and provides a great opportunity to be social.

“That’s why it’s so important for all our residents to be able to easily access sports and activities they enjoy.

“There’s a huge selection of things on offer in our city throughout the year, including free activities run by our Healthy Lifestyles team.

“Take Part is a perfect opportunity to find out what’s on offer, try something new, or take a step towards improving your health.

“It’s vital that we support the community with social prescribing initiatives like Take Part, and it’s why it’s our vision to make sure health is considered in all our policies.”

All of the events and activities are free to join and there’s something for everyone.

Hpwever, some need to be booked in advance and some are aimed at particular groups, ages or abilities, so the council are advising people to check on its website before turning up.
