A five foot boa constrictor found "slithering" through a busy park has been rescued by the RSPCA.

The snake, which was discovered in a park the Crescent Garden area of Surbiton, Surrey last month, will be rehomed at Brighton Animal Centre’s reptile unit.

The long scaly reptile, which has now been named Lulu, was found in “poor condition” with respiratory issues and ulcers in its mouth.

RSPCA inspector Dale Grant was called to the finder's home to collect the snake, with the animal charity issuing urgent medical treatment after her rescue.

Dale said he believes the snake would not have survived if she had been left without vet treatment.

When Lulu is nursed back to health, she will be rehomed at the centre in Blackpool Lane, Patcham.

The Argus:

Dale said: “Poor Lulu was discovered slithering through a local park in Surbiton in poor condition, following a call from a member of the public.

"We’re grateful they called as she would not have survived if she’d been left without vet treatment.

"Exotic pets appear to be increasing in popularity and the number of related incidents dealt with by the RSPCA has risen in recent years.

“We hope she will make a full recovery as she’s now in the specialist care of our vets."
