A music festival is coming to a Grade II* listed lido for its 85th anniversary.

Saltdean Lido will be hosting a music festival next weekend and everyone is invited.

The event will take place next Friday and Saturday in a chandelier-lit marquee next to the lido pool.

People will be able to see the illuminated lido up close as its restoration continues.

The lido originally opened in May 1938.

Deryck Chester, director at Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company said: “Saltdean has always been a home for live entertainment – ever since its origins as a holiday village.

“The lido itself was conceived as a leisure facility offering fine-dining, dancing as well as swimming. So we’re excited to be bringing big-named acts back to the lido in time for the Big Weekend festival.”

There are two evenings of live entertainment to choose from over the weekend including a family-friendly night which takes place on Friday, June 16, and includes a free swim and celebrates the music of the 80s, 90s and 00s.

The main event will take place on Saturday, June 17, and will be headlined by the rock and roll band The Bluejays who are currently on a nationwide tour.

They’ll be playing music by acts such as The Beatles, The Beachboys, Mickey and Sylvia and more.

The event, which runs from 7pm to 11pm on both nights, will have a licensed bar and hot food for people to enjoy.

All proceeds will help go towards completing the lido’s interior.

It is due to reopen fully in Autumn this year.
