Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be mulling over a name change from Windsor to Spencer, according to royal expert Tom Bower.

The specialist revealed the apparent plans during an interview with Dan Wootton on GB News.

The move would involve the Duke and Duchess of Sussex taking Harry’s late mother Diana’s maiden name and is reportedly part of the couple’s attempts to refashion their image.

Bower claimed that Meghan saw her “real object in life was to be Diana”.

He said: "That has always been her passion, that has also been Harry’s passion and Meghan went to the extent of suggesting that they should drop the name Windsor and take the surname Spencer.

"So she’d be Meghan Spencer - the new Diana."

He believes that this is something the pair have already discussed.

"‘They’ve discussed it not only by themselves but with others too," said Bower.

"This isn’t something they’ve plucked out of their minds. They were actively trying to recast themselves as Harry and Meghan Spencer.

"He’d take his mother’s name too. It’s all about the break off. They’d also give up the Sussex title because instead you’ve got the new incarnation of Diana."

It comes after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were branded as 'grifters' by Spotify executive Bill Simmons after the couple's deal with the company ended.

The pair had signed a three-year contract to produce content for Spotify, however, their Archewell company parted ways with the streaming giant after Meghan hosted just one series of the Archetypes podcast.

Simmons, Spotify's Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetisation, previously called it "embarrassing" to be associated with the same company as Harry, who he said "whines" and "keeps giving interviews".

He previously said about Harry on his own podcast: "You just sell documentaries and podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything, unless you talk about the royal family and you just complain about them.”
