Plans have been submitted for a new escape room to take over a nightclub outbuilding – including a Titanic-themed room.

Developers hope to open several themed escape rooms at the site.

In a case of unfortunate timing, the plans include a number of rooms based around the sinking of the Titanic. Plans were submitted days before the Titan submarine went missing on a voyage to visit the sunken vessel and imploded, leaving no survivors.

In planning documents submitted for the escape rooms, the outbuilding on West Street would be converted to include “multiple theatre rooms” with a range of themes including an “Alcatraz Cell” and “State Room”.

Designs submitted with the proposal show the rooms would be themed around the bridge of the Titanic with a large ships wheel and brass telegraph.

Plans for the rooms were submitted on Tuesday, June 13, days before the site of the Titanic became the centre of international news after OceanGate's Titan submarine went missing.

The submarine losing communications sparked a widespread search and rescue mission which concluded when the vessel was found to have imploded.

If the plans are approved, the rooms at the venue would include an Alcatraz “Execution Chamber” with a fake electric chair and faux bricks along the walls.

Themes for the rooms also include a hotel room as well as a “ghost train” themed area featuring faux mahogany panelling.

The outbuilding plans are a collaboration between current owners Revolutions and Houdini’s Escape Rooms, who run multiple similar venues across the country.

Part of the outbuilding would still be used as storage for the nightclub and bar.

Escape rooms involve groups of participants being locked in the themed rooms for a period of time and needing to solve puzzles to get out.

Plans for the escape room are yet to be formally approved with a deadline set for August.
