A couple who died in their own home were found with stab wounds.

Parents Chloe-Jay Bashford, 30, and Joshua Bashford, 33, were found dead in their Newhaven home on Friday, June 9.

An inquest into their death was opened today. It heard they were found in different bedrooms at their home at around 7pm.

Police found the body of Chloe in a ground-floor bedroom.

A post-mortem examination in Brighton on June 12 found she died from multiple stab wounds.

Her husband Josh was found in an upstairs bedroom.

His post-mortem on June 13 found a single, fatal stab wound to his anterior torso.

DCI Kimball Edey told the inquest that the police investigation is ongoing.

Laura Bradford, assistant coroner for East Sussex, said the coronial investigation would be suspended while police investigate.

Derek Martin, 64, has been charged with murder. He has already appeared at Lewes Crown Court where he was told he will face trial in November.

Kayleigh Last, one of the couple's nieces, has launched a fundraiser to support Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua

Writing on GoFundMe, Ms Last said: "First of all we want to say thank you for all the support our family have received in this difficult time,

"Chloe and Josh were the most incredible and loving parents to four amazing children.

"Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua are safe and cared for and are grieving with the whole family.

"Rest in Peace Chloe and Josh, you will always be so loved and never forgotten."
