Patients in Brighton experience some of the shortest GP wait times in the UK, according to new research.

The survey from legal services provider Slater and Gordon revealed the average waiting time in the city is 1.79 weeks.

The average waiting time to see a GP in the UK is 2.35 weeks.

Slater and Gordon said wait times are so long that 32 per cent of people in Brighton said they don’t even bother trying to get in touch with their GP any more.

One in eight people in Brighton (13 per cent) has considered going private due to long NHS wait times with 23 per cent of people abandoning the NHS completely in favour of paid-for healthcare.

The amount of time people can expect to wait to visit their GP varies from city to city with those in Belfast waiting the longest and Glaswegians getting appointments the quickest.
