One person has been taken to hospital after a crash on the A259 this morning.

The smash near Kwik Fit garage in Newhaven at roughly 8am is still causing tailbacks in both directions to Peacehaven and Bishopstone.

Police and paramedics are on the scene with one person taken to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Brighton Road, Newhaven, at approximately 9am today.

“Ambulance crews attended and one person was assessed and treated before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.”

Buses are being diverted via the A26 and A27 between Newhaven and Rottingdean in both directions.

Sussex Police were contacted for comment.
