Numerous car windows were shattered in a string of late-night attacks by a vandal walking down a quiet residential street.

CCTV has captured the moment a vandal shattered the rear windscreen of a hatchback car in a seemingly-unprovoked act of vandalism in Tarner Road, Brighton.

Sussex Police have launched an investigation into the spate, after they arrived to find two more cars damaged in nearby Sussex Street.

The vandal was spotted rifling through a skip before walking up to a blue Volkswagen Golf and shattering its rear windscreen, before walking off towards Richmond Street near Queens Park.

When officers turned up, they were not able to find the mystery vandal.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were called shortly after 11pm on Saturday, July 1, to a report of damage being caused to a vehicle parked in Tarner Road, Brighton.

"Officers attended and found a further two vehicles with damage in nearby Sussex Street.

An area search was carried out for the suspect but with no trace. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to report it online or by calling 101 quoting serial 1571 of 01/07."
