Charles Holcombe wrote about the planning rules already broken by Brighton and Hove City Council with regard to the height restrictions that were imposed by the Government in the Brighton Marina Act 1968 (Letters, June 27).

In addition, Brighton and Hove City Council is preparing to do the same thing again with the plans being submitted by Xcel Leisure (Laing O'Rourke) where two out of four tower blocks will soar above clifftop height.

At a recent workshop meeting I was told that it was wrong that all properties were privately owned and that with 40% affordable housing, the new proposed developments will be a better mix of people.

So now all becomes clear. The policy is not about housing but social engineering.
