A flytipper who dumped waste across the county has been ordered to pay £2,000 in fines and court fees.

Wealden District Council brought the prosecution against Stephen Chapman from Newhaven and a separate one against Karl Miles, from Maresfield, after parts of the district were “blighted” by the dumped waste.

Friston Forest, Jevington and Hollow Lane in Blackboys were some of the affected areas.

Chapman, of Gibbon Road, Newhaven, pleaded guilty to two flytips and six duty of care offences relating to flytipped waste collected from Brighton, Bexhill and Ringmer.

He was ordered to pay a total of £2,000 at Hastings Magistrates’ Court made up of a £1,292 fines, a victim surcharge and council costs.

In a separate prosecution, Miles, of Parklands, Maresfield, pleaded guilty to two duty of care offences in relation to flytipped waste from his business and home.

Miles received a fine of £480 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £192 and the council’s costs of £554.

Councillor Gareth Owen-Williams said: “These results will be a deterrent to potential flytippers showing that we will not tolerate this criminal behaviour in Wealden which blights our beautiful countryside.

“Working together we can stamp out flytipping completely.”
