An American hot dog eating contest is coming to Sussex for its first-ever competition in the UK.

Nathan’s Famous, well-known in the United States for the traditional hot dog eating contest on US Independence Day, is bringing an “unforgettable celebration of gastronomic prowess” to its restaurant at Seal Bay Resort in Selsey, near Bognor.

Professional “eaters” from America, Britain and beyond will battle it out to be proclaimed UK champion, with the winners securing a spot as a contestant at the next American contest, held at Coney Island in New York.

Organisers said: “Witness the fierce competition unfold and prepare to be dazzled by the incredible eating talents on display. It’s an event you’ll relish for years to come.”

The event takes place at The Lido at the Seal Bay Resort from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, August 26, with free entry.
