Tequila-lovers can pick up a free margarita ice lolly this weekend – but anyone with a fear of bugs should stay away.

Altos Tequila will be at the i360 on Brighton seafront on Friday and Saturday (August 25 and 26) handing out the treats which feature chillies, grasshoppers and tequila worms.

The brand launched its new range after research revealed that British adults have “more adventurous tastes today than at any other time in history”.

Altos Tequila asked 2,000 adults about their favourite additives to cocktails and the results may surprise some readers.

Included in the top 20 additions were grasshoppers, worm salt, dried grasshoppers, squid ink, dried worm larvae and dried scorpions.

Speaking about the new launch, Simon Hodgson, brand ambassador at Altos Tequila, said: “As the UK gets more inspired by different cultures, we’re seeing an increasing trend of unique ingredients being experimented with in our food and drink, especially cocktails.

“The Mexican margarita is one of the most versatile cocktails out there so we can’t wait to offer tequila fans our new range of margarita lollies with some very special twists as a new way to cool down this summer.”

Anyone interested in getting their hand on a tasty treat can choose from a lime margarita, the classic tequila cocktail in a cooling frosted lolly complete with speckles of lime zest for the traditional margarita flavour, a watermelon margarita, a  pink watermelon margarita inspired by Mexican paletas filled with watermelon chunks for a taste of summer or a picante with chilli and coriander, a hot and tangy picante margarita lolly.

Those brave enough can also try a tequila worms and crunchy grasshoppers blend, classic frosted margarita lollies with added grasshoppers and tequila mealworms.
