A tree house in a children's play area was set on fire.

The charred remains of the wooden structure in the play area in Egerton Park, Bexhill, has been taped off.

Sussex Police are now trying to find out who destroyed the equipment in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Between 2am and 3am on Monday, August 28, the tree house, part of the multi-play unit in Egerton Park, Bexhill, was set on fire.

“Did you see or hear anything suspicious; do you have CCTV / Ring doorbell footage? If so, please contact us, quoting reference number 115 29/08/23, either online or call 101.”

The play area at Egerton Park was originally built by Rother District Council in 2006 after being awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The park was created in the late 19th century by developer John Webb as an addition to the seaside town.

Rother District Council was approached for comment.
