A section of Brighton beach had to be closed today because of health fears after a suspected sewage leak.
Seafront employees closed part of the beach near to the Palace Pier as a precaution after liquid was spotted pouring from the pier into the sea.
Closer investigations revealed a fire hydrant was leaking fresh water into the surrounding area.
The hydrant was repaired and the beach was subsequently reopened.
