Two riders squared up to each other in an astonishing cycle rage attack involving a father and son.

One of the riders was punched in the face during the incident on Wednesday.

Police say a father an son were riding in Lansdowne Place, Hove, when another cyclist undertook them.

He is believed to have ridden up the inside of the slower cyclists passing between them and the kerb.

The father, who has not been named, thought the other rider had hit his son as he rode past them.

Both men swore at each other and made rude hand gestures at each other.

Police say the other cyclist rode off but was chased by the father who was described as 6ft 2ins tall, weighing 20stone and aged about 30.

He punched the other man on the jaw and rode off after the attack which happened just after 12pm.

The victim called the police who arrived at the scene a few minutes later.

The other cyclist returned a few minutes later and was arrested and taken to Hove police station where he was questioned about the attack.

Sergeant Richard Delacour said: "The victim was punched on the jaw but had no visible injuries.

"He said he had been assaulted by a man in a t-shirt and shorts who was with a young boy.

"A man arrived at the scene while police were there and was arrested.

"He was later released after receiving an adult caution about his behaviour."
