On Monday at Haywards Heath Station the queue for tickets extended from the two open windows, backwards and forwards in the snaking queue and then disappeared up the tunnel passing the first entrance to the platforms. Is it the train company's intention to encourage passengers to travel without tickets thus incurring penalty fares, or simply to issue penalty fare notices when the queue actually arrives at the platform without a train or platform ticket?
Unfortunately we added to the carbon footprint because I had to drive my husband from the station to Hove because he couldn't get a ticket, having arrived to catch the previous train.
