The Theatre Royal swung itself back 50 years on Tuesday night for a Rat Pack revival act that pulled no punches.

When the curtain rose it revealed an impressive looking Sands Hotel-imitation set, a 14-piece band and, first up, Frank.

Sinatra was the cool one, the straight man, but he had a real spark. Stephen Triffit looked the part but struggled to avoid looking like he does it every night. I guess Sinatra had a few off days too, though.

Things really got underway when Sammy launched himself on stage. David Hayes sung his numbers like they'd given him one night to prove he could cut it.

He was every inch the original Sammy Davis, Jr. and his Mr. Bojangles rendition, always in good company, was right up there.

When the spotlight fell on Dean Martin, the humour ratcheted up ten fold.

Nigel Casey doesn't look much like the famed drinker, but his comic timing and mannerisms were impeccable.

If you're partial to a fast-paced, brilliantly choreographed show in which everything comes together right on the mark, then roll up.
