Three chart-topping bands will headline a seafront gig in Brighton this summer.

N*E*R*D, The Streets and McFly will hit the stage next month for the second Vodafone TBA event to hit the city.

TBA has moved away from its "secret gig" format used in 2006 when Razorlight played.

But the bands will play in the same place as singer Johnny Borrell and his band did, on the site of the old paddling pool by the West Pier.

Ian Shepherd, consumer director for Vodafone UK, said:

"2008 is another great year for customers to experience Vodafone's Live Music programme which has seen some of the greatest artists from around the world perform to music fans.

"We are poised to deliver a superior music experience this year with a tremendous line-up of artists and musicians."

Vodafone customers can win tickets to the event for themselves and two friends by texting ACTS to 61500.

But it is expected thousands of other people will also head to the gig on August 10.

In 2006 about 600 people won VIP tickets to see Razorlight in a fenced area, but about 4,500 others turned up to watch and dance in the sunshine.

The show will also be on T4, with TV presenter and XFM radio DJ Dave Berry interviewing the bands in the lead-up to the big day.

Organisers say crowds will be in for an exciting day as the bands plan to play well-known hits as well as new material.

Funk Rock supremos N*E*R*D will shake up the gig with their mash-up of hip-hop beats and rock riffs.

Fans will be treated to their favourite NERD tunes plus some tracks from their new album Seeing Sounds.

The Streets fronted by Mike Skinner, whose fourth album is close to completion, will also take to the stage and pop quartet McFly, who have had seven number one singles and two number one albums, will wow the crowds.

The second Vodafone TBA will lead up to the Vodafone Live Music Awards in September.

Fans have the chance to vote for their favourite bands at www.vodafone.co.uk/music.

Previous winners have included Iggy Pop, Take That, Razorlight, Amy Winehouse and Mika.
