Brighton has been named one of the most dangerous cities for drivers.

Each city in the UK was awarded a score out of ten based on road accident and fatality rates reported in the last year, the prevalence of vehicle crimes and the number of people with penalty points on their licences.

Brighton came seventh with its most dangerous factor being road accidents.

The city had the fifth-highest number of road accidents, with 446 accidents per 100,000 residents.

That is 75 per cent higher than the national average.

Data from the government was analysed by Claims.co.uk, a personal injury law firm, shows that an average of five people die and 84 are seriously injured every day on UK roads.

A spokeswoman from Claims.co.uk said: “It’s crucial that all drivers, whether a resident or visitor, recognise the elevated risks in areas that report high rates of accidents and thefts.

“It important to be vigilant in high-risk areas by locking your car and leaving it in a safe place when unattended to avoid theft.”
